Daycare vs. Preschool; Whats the Difference Between Them?

In this video, Kylie Schrader and Jessica Johnsen from “Yellow Brick Road” preschool join together to explain why preschool is different than daycare. They say the difference between daycare and preschool is apparent in the wording. Preschool informs that kids are using this time to learn with professional teachers and lesson plans. Daycare focuses on play and physical needs without specific attention placed on learning.

The women further explain teachers use a curriculum that teaches a child in all areas of learning. For example, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive areas. Furthermore, the difference between daycare and preschool involves preschool lessons in mathematics, language, and science. While a daycare provides care for a group of kids, preschools go further with both group instruction and individual attention to each child.

Professional teachers make assessments and upload videos, lessons, and papers, to a portfolio where parents can track their progress. Additionally, teachers have conferences to discuss where your child is currently, and their goals for the future.

While daycare provides a safe place to leave your child when working, the difference between daycare and preschool is that preschool gives your child an early education.
